2002 Class Schedule

Rediscover the wonders of nature, with the River Source Kayaking Academy. Join our professional instructors for a few hours - or a few days - of fun-filled, on-the-water kayaking experience.

Whitewater kayaking is an exhilerating sport that offers endless new challenges around every river bend.


Although not for everyone, most people who like water sports, have a sense of adventure, and a reasonable level of fitness will find kayaking a truly rewarding pursuit. Be forewarned...kayaking is addictive!

We offer a wide variety of courses and clinics to meet your educational desires and schedule. A 4:1 student to instructor ratio is maintained in our group classes, and private lessons are available. We offer instructions for all ages and levels of paddlers; young or old, beginner or advanced, we have a class that is right for you.


Course Levels
Intro to Kayaking. This class is designed for individuals with no, or minimal experience in a closed-cockpit kayak. Class begins in a heated pool or pond, then progresses to the river. You'll learn the basics required to start kayaking on your own. You should know how to swim and enjoy the water.

River Running Level 1. If you have paddled a whitewater kayak on moving water a few times, have wroked on a roll, and are comfortbale swimming in the river and rescuing your equipment, but still need a lot of work before ou can enjoy the sport on your own, then this class is right for you.

River Running Level 2. Students in this class should possess a reliable combat roll, the ability to confidently ferry, perform eddy turns, and be experienced in Class II and III whitewater.

Playboating Workshop. Do you want to learn to cartwheel, stern squirt, surf and spin? If so, then this is your class. A solid roll, and Class III whitewater skills are essential for this course. It's a blast!

Class V Primer. If you want to pursue big water and steep creeks, this is the course for you! Applicants must have extensive Class III whitewater experience, some Class IV experience, a bomber roll and a relaxed attitude. We will work on boating skills and discuss river rescue, safety equipment, hazard identification, judgement and the mental preparedness needed for tackling upper level whitewater. COMPLETION OF THIS CLASS DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE READY TO PADDLE CLASS V RIVERS. IT IS MERELY MEANT AS A PRIMER, TO HELP INDIVIDUALS UNDERSTAND WHAT IT TAKES TO SUCESSFULLY NEGOTIATE DIFFICULT WHITEWATER.
